IUI Treatment
A simple step when timing matters.
IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) is a fertility treatment that places prepared sperm directly into the uterus during ovulation—improving the chances of sperm meeting the egg at the right time.

What is IUI?.
IUI is a minimally invasive fertility procedure designed to support natural conception. During your most fertile window, sperm is “washed” and concentrated in a lab, then placed inside the uterus using a thin catheter. The goal is to shorten the sperm’s path and improve timing—especially when ovulation tracking and sperm preparation can make a meaningful difference.
Important to know: IUI supports fertilisation inside the body (unlike IVF, where fertilisation happens in the lab).
Who is IUI recommended for?
At Mitra, we use IUI when it matches the diagnosis and gives a meaningful chance—especially when the main challenge is timing, mild sperm factors, or ovulation support
IUI Treatment
IUI is commonly chosen in cases like:
- Unexplained infertility, when key reports look normal but pregnancy isn’t happening yet
- Mild male-factor challenges, where sperm count/motility is borderline and can benefit from preparation
- Ovulation irregularity (including PCOS), when ovulation can be supported and timed accurately
- Cervical factor concerns, where sperm passage may be affected
- Timed conception support, when cycle timing needs structured monitoring
- Previous IVF fertilization failure or low fertilization rates
Our Approach to IUI
We don’t place everyone on the same path. We map the path that fits your case—clearly and confidently.
IUI vs IVF
Both aim to help pregnancy happen, but the pathway is different:

IUI
Supports fertilization inside the body by pinpointing your ovulation window and placing lab-prepared (washed and concentrated) sperm directly into the uterus at the right time. This shortens the sperm’s journey, improves timing accuracy, and can be a strong option when the main challenge is timing or mild sperm/ovulation factors.
IVF
Creates embryos in a controlled lab environment by retrieving eggs, fertilizing them outside the body (standard IVF or ICSI), and then transferring a selected embryo into the uterus. This approach gives more control over fertilization and embryo development, and is often used when there are tubal issues, significant male-factor concerns, age/egg reserve factors, or when simpler treatments haven’t worked.
How Mitra helps You Choose
We explain what your reports actually mean, what the realistic outcomes look like for each route, and what step is worth trying next—without confusion or pressure.
Your IUI journey (step-by-step)
An IUI cycle typically fits into one menstrual cycle.
Step 01: Consultation + clarity
We start by understanding your timeline, cycle pattern, and what you’ve already tried. If reports are needed, we tell you exactly what’s required and why.
Step 02: Ovulation tracking (the most important part)
We track your fertile window through ultrasound monitoring and/or blood tests to identify the best timing.
Step 03: Ovulation support (if required)
If your cycle needs it, we use simple, carefully monitored medication protocols to support ovulation and improve timing accuracy.
Step 04: Trigger timing (if part of the plan)
In some cycles, a trigger shot is used to time ovulation more precisely—so the IUI window is accurate.
Step 05: Sperm preparation (“washing”)
On the day of IUI, the semen sample is processed to concentrate healthy, motile sperm and remove impurities—improving the quality of sperm used for the procedure.
Step 6: The IUI procedure
Prepared sperm is placed into the uterus using a soft catheter. It is quick and typically feels like mild discomfort or light cramping.
Step 07: Support + follow-up
Depending on your cycle, we may add luteal support and guide you through the waiting period with clear do’s and don’ts.
Step 08: Pregnancy test + next step plan
Whatever the result, we don’t leave you guessing. We review the cycle, explain what it indicates, and map the next best step with clarity

Other Treatment Options
From your first conversation to every step that follows, we focus on clarity, comfort, and guidance that truly supports you throughout your fertility journey.
ICSI
A precision IVF method where a single healthy sperm is injected directly into the egg to improve fertilization chances. Commonly recommended for male-factor infertility, low sperm count/motility, or prior fertilization challenges—guided carefully at every step.
FET (Frozen Embryo Transfer)
Confidential male fertility evaluation and treatment guidance. Semen analysis, hormone review, and clear next-step planning—because fertility is a shared journey.
Embryo freezing
Preserve high-quality embryos safely for future use, giving you flexibility for later transfers and family planning. Ideal when you want to pause treatment, plan multiple attempts, or keep options open—stored securely with guided follow-up.
Know more About IUI
What affects IUI outcomes?
IUI success depends on several medical and biological factors, including:
Age and egg quality
How accurately ovulation is tracked
Sperm quality after preparation
Whether at least one tube is functional/open
Uterine environment and lining
Diagnosis factors like PCOS or mild endometriosis
Duration of infertility
Metabolic health factors (thyroid balance, insulin resistance, vitamin deficiencies)
Mitra’s focus: Improve what’s improvable, monitor what matters, and keep expectations realistic—with full transparency.
Is IUI safe?
IUI is generally safe and minimally invasive.
Some common experiences and considerations:
Mild cramping or spotting after the procedure
Multiple pregnancy risk if stimulation leads to multiple follicles (this is why monitoring matters)
Rare overstimulation risks in certain protocols (managed through careful dosing + scans)
Very low infection risk, with proper clinical standards
Our priority: safe cycles, responsible monitoring, and protocols that put long-term health first.
When IUI is not the right fit
At Mitra, we’ll clearly tell you when IUI isn’t worth your time, money, or emotional energy.
IUI may not be ideal when:
Both fallopian tubes are blocked (or the functional tube isn’t accessible)
Male-factor infertility is severe (ICSI/IVF pathways may be more effective)
Ovarian reserve is significantly low and time is critical
There’s advanced endometriosis or complex uterine/tubal factors
Multiple well-timed IUIs have already failed without improvement in indicators
What you’ll get instead: A direct explanation + a better next step plan.
Preparing for IUI (what we review)
To plan IUI properly, we typically review:
For her:
Cycle history and ovulation pattern
Ultrasound assessment
Hormonal evaluation (as needed)
Tubal status (if required in your case)
For him:
Semen analysis
Repeat testing if results are borderline or inconsistent
Support beyond the procedure
We also help with practical changes—nutrition, sleep, stress support, and supplements only when needed—so the plan supports your whole fertility picture, not just the procedure day.
Take the step that brings clarity to your journey.

For the first time, a doctor actually listened to my full story. I left the consultation feeling calm, understood, and finally clear about my next steps with complete confidence.
Questions you might be afraid to ask (but should).
Is IUI painful?
Most people feel mild discomfort or light cramping for a short time. It’s a quick outpatient procedure.
Do we need at least one open tube for IUI?
Yes—because fertilization happens naturally inside the body, typically in the fallopian tube.
Can IUI work for PCOS?
Yes—especially when ovulation is supported and carefully monitored to avoid overstimulation.
How many IUI cycles should we try?
This depends on your age, diagnosis, and how your cycle responds. At Mitra, we define a clear attempt window and reassess based on real indicators—not guesswork.
What if the IUI doesn’t work?
We review timing, follicle response, lining, and sperm prep outcomes—then refine the plan or shift to a better pathway with clarity.
